Double Standards, Everywhere

Today, my daughter, who is 6 years old had a sad realization. While watching Bubble Guppies she says, “Mom, I don’t like it that the girls have to wear shirts and the boys don’t. It doesn’t seem fair.”
I explained that unfortunately it is very common in our society for people to create double standards. An example of this is the Bubble Guppies show, they are putting the idea out there that it is ok for boys to go shirtless, but for girls they are saying it’s not ok. That is a double standard.

If men are allowed to go shirtless then women should be able to as well, but since breasts are viewed heavily as sexual instead of normal, people in our country have issues with them unless they are used to promote or sell things.

Double standards all in the name of earning potential.

Bare chest of a man on any basketball court, beach, or walking down the road = normal

Bare chest of a woman anywhere other than her own  bedroom or bathroom = inappropriate

The issue is some people don’t know how to control themselves, their mouths or their actions, and that is no excuse or reason to push a double standard.

Then I explained that Florida is an ambiguous state and what that means.
She says, “Breasts are for feeding babies, is it legal to feed babies?”

Oh my, the conversation we had that night…

Long story short, my girl knows breasts are for feeding babies first and foremost.

Then she says, “This makes me want to build a clubhouse and put a big ole sign out there that says, girls can be naked here!”

This girl gets it!
I am raising my girl right!
