Postpartum Care Tips
Congratulations on your new arrival! Becoming a new parent can be exciting, overwhelming, and bring on all of the emotions. Here are some postpartum care tips to help you through these next few months.
Take care of yourself!
We get so wrapped up with caring for our babies (and the rest of the ones that we love). It’s important to prioritize your physical and emotional well-being after giving birth. Try to get enough rest, drink plenty of water, get lots of sunshine, eat well, and exercise as you feel able. Continuing to take your prenatal vitamins for the first few months after birth can help ease the transition.
Ask for help!
Don’t be afraid to ask for help from friends, neighbors, family members, postpartum support specialists like The Jax Baby Company. Accepting help can make a big difference in reducing stress and allowing you to focus on healing and bonding with your new baby.
Bond with your baby!
Take the time to bond with your baby, whether it’s through skin-to-skin contact, breastfeeding, bathing together, singing or playing an instrument to, or simply cuddling. Bonding increases oxytocin and oxytocin strengthens bonds.
Connect with other new parents!
Parents often feel isolated after giving birth or brining home a new baby. Find and join new parenting support groups or connect with other parents through social media to share experiences and get support. Shared experiences and interests can help create new and meaningful friendships!
Postpartum care isn’t complete without taking care of your mental health!
The postpartum time period can be emotionally challenging, and it’s important to take care of your mental health. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out to a therapist or counselor. The Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale is a great self-assessment tool to help you gauge how things are going.
